FAQ

What Is Kefir?

Kefir (pronounced kuh-feer or kee-fer) is a naturally fermented probiotic beverage using a SCOBY culture (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast). There are two variations of the Kefir SCOBY, one cultures milk and the other cultures sugar water. The difference lies in the food required for the SCOBY. Our water kefir SCOBY lives on organic cane sugar, keeping our product dairy-free.

So, It's Like Kombucha?

Yes and No. Both Kefir and Kombucha are naturally fermented beverages from a SCOBY containing beneficial bacteria and yeast. From there, they diverge in a few distinct ways. Here is a quick comparison:

KEFIR WATER

  • Caffeine-free - Fermented in sugar water solution without Tea
  • Different Probiotics - Diverse strains of Lactobacilli that support upper and lower GI tract cellular health, immune system and digestion
  • Light Flavour - Water Kefir is less acidic tasting with a touch of sweetness
  • Uncarbonated - our Infused Water Kefir are not fermented for fizz

Kombucha

  • Caffeinated - Fermented in black or green tea sugar solution
  • Probiotics - support digestion and cellular health
  • Carbonated & Tangy - like a sparkly apple cider vinegar drink

Does Kefir Water Contain Caffeine?

Nope! Water Kefir is caffeine-free.

What Are Probiotics?

The Mayo Clinic says "Probiotics are good bacteria that are either the same as or very similar to the bacteria that are already in your body." And the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says "[B]acteria that are normally present in our intestines help digest food, destroy disease-causing microorganisms, and produce vitamins."

Why Should I Consume Probiotics?

Back to the Mayo Clinic "Some research suggests that having too many of the "bad" and not enough of the "good" bacteria — caused in part by an unhealthy diet — can wreak all sorts of havoc on your body's systems. This imbalance can lead to weight gain, skin conditions, constipation or diarrhea, and various chronic health conditions." Consuming live active probiotics, like those found in water kefir, can improve the number of good bacteria in your gut and help your body find balance to better support your health.

Where Are The Bubbles?

In the cans!! We're so excited to have launched our products in a super portable 355mL can format. Our team has worked hard to balance the flavour and carbonation levels necessary for the canning process to maintain our signature light, refreshing, and totally crushable probiotic refresher that you know and love - with a gentle bubble that ties it all together.

Our glass 1L bottle format remains still (still!) if bubbles aren't your thing! Love cans but not the bubbles? Just crack one open and leave it lightly covered in the fridge for a few hours and they'll disappear!
